Under Agee’s leadership, NVFS has grown into the largest private nonprofit human service organization in Northern Virginia. Established in 1924, NVFS works to improve the lives of clients through a variety of programs in five mission initiatives: safe & stable housing, child & family enrichment, health access, emergency assistance and workforce development.

Mary Agee began her career with NVFS as a family counselor in 1972. Over the last 30 years she has been instrumental in growing NVFS into the vital community resource that it is today — employing over 300 professionals and providing a constellation of life-changing programs to Northern Virginia’s families. From 1978-1988, Mary was deputy director of Northern Virginia Family Service and since 1988 has served as executive director and then chief executive officer.
